One Week Down & One Companion Departs

When I began planning this adventure and then incorporated five others to take along with me, I was unsure how I would arrange things so that they really got a true feel of what Scotland is.

My hope was that as they returned home a sense of awe and understanding would linger with them. Awe at the magnificent sights of this land and understanding of the heart which beats in its villages, glens, lochs, and mountains. This first week has been a series of days that has exhausted even the youngest of us. However the Highlands of Scotland demand dedication from those who wish to know it.

I believe as Seth leaves us, he can say he has come to know this ancient land in ways he could not have anticipated. From the most northern parts over looking the sea to the deepest lochs hidden between mountains. Exploring narrow streets of towns where for hundreds of years men like us have walked in search for a calm amongst the cruel beauty which again, demands to be acknowledged. Despite the things we were not able to see or do, I will say farewell to my ginger haired brother with a full heart.

The next dram I have will be in your honor.

Good night, and joy be wi' ye a',

Your harmless mirth has cheer'd my heart” - Alexander Boswell
